After each title below you will see, in parentheses, the lineage of that person. For example: (Tom/Jim) after the top item about Billy Cannell tells you that Billy descends from Tom (his grandfather) and Jim (his father).

I would like to send congratulations to Ann for a job so well, thoroughly, and lovingly done! This is an absolutely wonderful idea, and I plan to make a "date" with my cousins at regular intervals to keep up.

Congratulations to Nancy and Guillermo on their upcoming marriage! See, I've learned something new already.

We will be sending along an address change for son Ron and wife Linda soon after the first of the year. After living in Visalia for 16 years, they are moving back to Fresno. Grandma is really excited at the prospect of having all 3 grandchildren in a 1 mile radius of her home!

Christmas blessings and a very happy new year to all of you.

Love, C

Summer, 2003 Ruthie Ford Burgoine (Susan/Ruthie/Nancy/Steve)
Dick and I have been busy with many activities summer 2003. Some highlights have been hiking at Silver Creek Falls with Ann and John and hiking Saddle Mtn. with several Cannell cousins. We also enjoyed the Lewis & Clark Explorer Train on a day trip from Portland to Astoria and back to Portland. A special hightlight was the family reunion picnic at Spring Glade in August. We had a great attendance this year. Also in August we rode our bikes 24 miles in the annual Bridge Pedal across six of downtown Portland's bridges. Gardening is one of my favorite hobbies and Dick is a willing helper. This summer we had fun creating an area of paths and raised beds.

Nancy ran the Boston Marathon in April. She is planning to compete again next year and has run two half-marathons this summer as part of her training. Nancy's big news is her engagement to Guillermo Ortega. They met on a blind date in early 2003. They are planning to marry in February 2004 and will live in Guillermo's townhome in Mesa. Guillermo is a mail carrier for the US Postal Service.

Steve and Janet have had a busy summer. Several months ago Steve was one of eight in the country to win a promotional contest which included a major league baseball game and 4 days in a city of his choice. They recently spent a long weekend in Boston with another couple. I think he must have inherited some of Grandpa Ford's luck.

Dick is off on a sailing adventure with two friends. They left San Francisco Bay on October 20 to sail south along the coast of California, Baja and Mexico. They are now in Cabo San Lucas and deciding how much further south they will sail before returning to Mazatlan about mid December.

I am flying to Mazatlan on December 16 to join Dick. We will spend Christmas at a beach resort and both fly home on December 26.

Well, Riley got Student of the month last month for being the Quality Producer and this month Zachary got it for being a Complex Thinker (we just found out yesterday!). We are so proud. Last year Zachary got Complex Thinker once as well. :)

Spring, 2003 Jim Cannell (Tom) : (Written by Maggie and Katie)
Billy is still going to flight school every Tuesday and Thursday and flying every Saturday. He and Bobby are starting paddling with the school team, beginning next week. Marching band just ended so he's back in concert band and stage band playing the trombone (still). College applications are due soon, and he's getting to work on that too. Haha.

Bobby is starting paddling with Billy, and is playing the trombone in stage and concert band. Although kayaking just ended, he goes to morning practices before school every Monday, Wednesday, Friday with HCKT, which is the Hawaii Canoe and Kayak Team. He recently got over the flu, so I hope we all don't get it soon. :(

Maggie is done with marching band but still playing the mellophone and not the french horn for a while since the concert music is a sort of marching-on-stage type of song. She is currently swimming and hopes she'll make it on the JV swim team, but since try-outs are right now, is not sure which team she'll be on. :)

Katie is playing the oboe for the school band and also plays the piano. She is swimming for the school swim club and will do track later on in the year.
