After
Graduation from Portland State University
in 1961, Jim taught school for 5 years. During
that time he learned to fly and in 1966 was
accepted by Northwest Airlines for jet flight
training...and so began his 30+ year career
with Northwest.
The final chapter in this career was checking
out as a 747 Captain in 1984, based in Seattle,
but also at various times being based in New
York flying to Europe, in Minneapolis flying
primarily to the Orient, and finally in 1991
was one of the first pilots to transfer to
the new base in Honolulu, flying to Australia,
flying Northwest's first flght ever to Bangkok,
and flew all Northwests Asian routes with
an occasional Tokyo-New york non-stop thrown
in for good measure. Jim took early retirement
in 1997.
In 1984 Jim married Perseka Law and they moved
to a 700 acre hay farm in Ellensburg, WA.
They had four children: William Winston Law,
Jan 23, 1986; Robert Coulter Law, June 16,
1987; Margaret Melanie Law, April 20, 1989;
Katherine Phoebe Law, December 1, 1990.
After Jim's retirement from Northwest in 1997,
he decided to begin to phase out of the hay
business in WA and move his family to Honolulu,
where they are living at present.

Jim
and Perseka had also started a mini-storage
business in Ellensburg in 1991 which had
grown to over 400 units and almost 60,000
sq ft of total buildings.
After running this business for four years
from Hawaii, it was sold in 2001 and, in
a tax exchange, ten condominiums were purchased
in Waikiki, which they run as a vacation
rental business through the internet. www.alohabeachcondos.com
. In the exchange they also acquired a small
business building , also in Waikiki, which
has offices upstairs, and a restaurant downstairs.

They
plan to open a newly remodeled restaurant
in the fall of 2003 . The picture of Jim
and Perseka in front of a mural (click
to enlarge) of the Pan American
Clipper, which they commissioned a German
artist to paint on one wall of the restaurant,
will partially explain why it will be called
the Clipper Cafe and Deli.
If
I may slip into the first person here for
a minute I'd like to say that a pilot friend
of mine from my original Northwest class
said he intended to have, "He just never
got it !" put on his tombstone. In all humbleness,
I feel I have, time and again, proven I'm
much more deserving of that epitaph than
he! - Jim
